Four incredible bottles from the world of Riesling
Here we present four of our favourite wines from the world of Riesling. Riesling, which is arguably a little unfashionable in the minds of the general public, usually holds a special soft spot with wine lovers. You tend to be able to get very good, world class wines for very little (relatively speaking). Perhaps it is misunderstood, as it comes in varying styles and sweetness levels, or perhaps we are reminded of Blue Nunn? Either way wine lovers are in for a treat as we get world class wines that don’t break the bank.
Eymann Riesling, Pfalz, Germany
£17.50 > £15.75
Classic and great value - Eymann is always a go-to wine. Wherever I’ve worked over the years, Eymann Riesling is always first on the list. Beautiful wine, full, with good texture and lovely freshness. Certified Biodynamic, Eymann is spearheading and promoting biodiversity in the region.
Les Jardins, Ostertag, France
£24.00 > £21.60
One of Alsace’s very best producers, Ostertag is also a sculptor in his spare time and you get a sense of the artfulness in these wines. The wine is dry, but with a touch of glycerol texture and classic notes of citrus, stone fruit and blossom. Another proponent of Biodynamics, helping Ostertag craft wines full of energy and personality.
RS3, Mac Forbes, Australia
£28.00 > £25.20
Mac Forbes has a cult following in the wine world, and for good reason. This is extremely fresh and electric rendition of Riesling – super fresh and one to enjoy with fresh seafood.
Chateau Montelena, Napa, USA
£32.00 > £28.80
Famous for defeating the French in the blind tasting of the judgement of Paris, Montelena are one of California’s leading estates. This one has a little sweetness and is off-dry with heady peach aromatic, floral notes of jasmine and crisp mineral freshness balancing with the sweetness. A great option for Thai curry,
