Around the World in Riesling

Four incredible bottles from the world of Riesling

Here we present four of our favourite wines from the world of Riesling. Riesling, which is arguably a little unfashionable in the minds of the general public, usually holds a special soft spot with wine lovers. You tend to be able to get very good, world class wines for very little (relatively speaking). Perhaps it is misunderstood, as it comes in varying styles and sweetness levels, or perhaps we are reminded of Blue Nunn? Either way wine lovers are in for a treat as we get world class wines that don’t break the bank.

Eymann Riesling, Pfalz, Germany

£17.50 > £15.75

Classic and great value - Eymann is always a go-to wine. Wherever I’ve worked over the years, Eymann Riesling is always first on the list. Beautiful wine, full, with good texture and lovely freshness. Certified Biodynamic, Eymann is spearheading and promoting biodiversity in the region.

Les Jardins, Ostertag, France

£24.00 > £21.60

One of Alsace’s very best producers, Ostertag is also a sculptor in his spare time and you get a sense of the artfulness in these wines. The wine is dry, but with a touch of glycerol texture and classic notes of citrus, stone fruit and blossom. Another proponent of Biodynamics, helping Ostertag craft wines full of energy and personality.

RS3, Mac Forbes, Australia

£28.00 > £25.20

Mac Forbes has a cult following in the wine world, and for good reason. This is extremely fresh and electric rendition of Riesling – super fresh and one to enjoy with fresh seafood.

Chateau Montelena, Napa, USA

£32.00 > £28.80

Famous for defeating the French in the blind tasting of the judgement of Paris, Montelena are one of California’s leading estates. This one has a little sweetness and is off-dry with heady peach aromatic, floral notes of jasmine and crisp mineral freshness balancing with the sweetness. A great option for Thai curry,

At Peckham Cellars we try to do our bit for the environment so for every delivery we make we plant a tree to help offset its impact

“Great service from Peckham Cellars today, ordered a bottle of champagne for a friend’s 50th birthday and it was delivered just hours after placing the order, she is delighted and so am I - thank you.”

Jo Luxton

Peckham Cellars is an incredible addition to the local area. The food is exceptional, the staff knowledgeable, friendly and fun and the wine selection second to none! We never have a bad experience there and have also been really impressed by the COVID safety measures, without making you feel any less welcome or dampening the enjoyment of a fantastic food experience!

Jacelyn Meller

Fantastic! Have been trying to get a table here for a while and I can see why it’s so popular. The food was delicious - the whipped butter, beef cheeks and taglionni were the highlights but it was all delicious and the staff were super friendly and accommodated my dietary requirements. The wine list was really exciting and the team here definitely know theIt stuff. (You can also buy the wine from their wine shop). They’ve done a great job in adapting to the Covid restrictions. This is a great restaurant with a super cool vibe.

Gemma Prichard

I ordered a bottle of wine online as a gift, the team replied straight away to an email request to pop a card in with the bottle; and they confirmed delivery over email too. Same day service, very friendly and helpful!
