The future's bright, the future's orange - Italian edition!

£95.00 £85.80

A tip-to-toe tour of Italy with four of our favourite skin-contact wines (including a wild-card entry!)

Italy has long been home to some of the world's greatest orange wines. Arguably, the modern penchant for a dabble with skin-contact wines started in Fruili (more on that later), and here we've gathered a quartet of our favourites from this wonderful country and the wonderful vinous experiments forming white grapes into orange wines. All these wines are made naturally with few, if any, modern winemaking processes.

Cataratto, Fabrizio Vella, Sicily

£18.00 > £16.20

Light skin contact with notes of orange peel, ginger, nutmeg - basically think of this as liquid marmalade without the sweetness!

Corragio, Podere Sassi, Lazio

£26.00 > £23.40

An inviting nose of apricot and ripe stone fruits made from a blend of Malvasia and trebbiano. The vines form part of the family farm which also provides fresh ingredients for their restaurant and bakery in Rome - sounds like the good life!

Esotico, Vini Sassara, Veneto

£23.00 > £20.70

The wine is super refreshing with notes of clementine, grapefruit and blood orange. A beautiful and unique expression of the Veneto hills. A bonkers blend of all the following grapes, bonus points if you've heard of any of them....! Corvina, Rossanella, Rondinella, Molinara, Fernanda, Moscato, Trebbianello, Trebbiano, Garganega, Tocai.

Burja Bela, Vipava valley, Slovenia

£28.00 > £25.20

What's a Slovenian wine doing in an Italian case? The Burja winery is about 20km from the Italian border and Fruili region. Producers such as Gravner and Radikon started making waves with their skin contact wines here in the late 90's. The Flysch soil and the Vipava Valley exist on both sides of the border, and we just fell in love with this wine from the Burja estate where the wines are heavily influenced by the great tradition of skin contact winemaking in Fruili. The wine itself has a light skin-contact, with incredible depth, a core of stone fruit with hints of smoke and savoury notes. A very fine wine indeed.
