Four world-class bottles of local Piedmont gems.
Piedmont is know mainly for its stunning Barolo and easy-drinking Gavi, but if you scratch under the surface you'll find a host of rare local grape varieties that produce world class wines, easily able to match the more famous siblings. In fact, most of these varietals are rarely exported, so popular as they are with the locals!
WHITES
Nascetta, Franco Conterno
£22.00 > £19.80
A floral nose with gives way to a fresh and zesty finish. Seldom seen in the UK we're happy to have some Nascetta in the building, its got a distinct floral character but that's balanced by fresh and clean palate.
Caespes, Ezio Poggio
Mary and Ezio are part of renaissance in the region rediscovering the potential of the Timorasso grape. And with good reason, the wines show incredible depth and concentration, think pear, lemon with light floral notes on the nose. Once imbibed its savoury, spicy and completely delicious.
REDS
Freisa, Franco Conterno
£20.00 > £18.00
We think of Freisa as a lighter-weight version of Nebiolo, so you get the same beautiful cherry fruit but with a slightly softer, more approachable structure - imagine the elegance of a Pinot Noir crossed with the power of a Barolo.
Coste della Sesia, Colombera & Gallera
£20.00 >£18.00
Coste della Sesia is in the Northern Piedmont, high up in the hills. Here the typical Nebbiolo is blended with Croatina and Vespolina. The altitude gives the wine a good deal of freshness to balance the power and structure of the wine. This one is really complex, constantly evolving with time in the glass. Look for mulberry, star anise, cherry. Enjoy this with grilled meats or boldly flavoured food.
At Peckham Cellars we try to do our bit for the environment so for every delivery we make we plant a tree to help offset its impact
